Gigondas Wine

Gigondas is an established wine and was one of the first Cotes-de-Rhone villages wines to gain its AOC in 1971. Wine has been made here since antiquity and it is mentioned as Gigondas in 1120. For the red wine Grenache Noir represents the largest proportion, blended with Mourvèdre and Syrah. A little Cinsault adds finesse. The first three grape varieties achieve a perfect balance and produce great wines for laying down that are truffle-like as they age. Depending on the plots and microclimates, the blend can vary between 80% Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre making up the remaining percentage in equal parts, and 50% Grenache, with Syrah and Mourvèdre each representing 25%.

This terroir is composed of stony terraces of red clay that rise up to the Dentelles de Montmirail. The reds have a deep, shimmering color. These balanced and full-bodied wines, with a powerful taste, are characterized by a nose that evolves from a youthful bouquet of fruit dominated by marasca (black cherry) to nuances of wild mint, undergrowth, and venison in a wine with ageing potential.
