Mont Ventoux obtained VDQS vin délimité de qualité supérieure (premium delimited wine) in 1953. This is regarded as a lower quality than AOC. Mont Ventoux obtained their AOC status in 1973. The area covers some 6,000 hectares, 60 square km, 23 square miles.
The red wines reveal garnet colors; they are round, supple, and warm. On the palate, spicy and fruity aromas are revealed, evolving into truffle notes. They possess a surprising freshness. A characteristic liveliness that sets them apart from the rest of the wines of the Southern Rhône.
For the red wines Grenache noir represents the largest proportion, blended with Mourvèdre and Syrah. A little Cinsault adds finesse. The first three grape varieties achieve a perfect balance. Depending on the plots and microclimates, the blend can vary between 80% Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre making up the remaining percentage in equal parts, and 50% Grenache, with Syrah and Mourvèdre each representing 25%.

The vines are on the lower slopes of the Mountain Mont Ventoux, much loved by cyclists and the Tour de France. It is the cheapest wine here but still retains some of the character of the rest. Same form of bottle but no coat of arms on the glass, so a simpler bottle.
It also displays VMV which is a collective of some 110 producers based in Bedoin formed in 1924.
